I am surprised by the volume of investment in time and energy that goes into the development of Artificial Intelligence. Why are we looking without for solutions that can only be found within?

We engineer processes that makes automated observations easier – observations with the help of machines. We collect and store information for processing and analyses so that we can interpret patterns that can inform us and to a larger degree inform a manufactured intelligence to minimize future work load.

Machine intelligence is our attempt to extend our own observation and reasoning processes and file those securely in digital memory. Are we really benefitting by placing all this information in a system that can be coldly analyzed and where critical decisions can me made purely based on a large data set?

To project onto the machine a likeness of intelligence that resembles the intelligence of the human being draws a dangerous parallel. A human being can be explained in some terms to be like a machine in the fact that we sense and process information, but a machine cannot be likened to a human being, falling way short of any parallel on a micro and macro cosmic scale.

A machine is a mechanism that mimics linear processes that makes its outputs more intelligent. It does not make the machine itself intelligent.

When we design and put machines to work we must realize the implications, like playing with fire. It's funny how the very thing that could destroy us is the thing we are most intent on figuring out.

Can what we learn from the machine be taught to others?

“Inferring the Why in Images” is an MIT paper discussing the results of a study, to feed the machine images in order to infer what the motivations are behind the actions of the person featured in the image. I can't help but think that all the visual information fed to machines and collected one the internet can through this research give accurate results to figure out, not the action, but the motivation of individuals. In this way we empower our own knowledge to understand collective behavior but on the risk side, to give a machine the ability to make those decisions for us.

When we can learn from the motivations of our own actions we can possibly learn to act in different ways or shape the actions of future generations. Alternatively a machine can decide what action you are performing and enforce compliance in behavior in a Big Brother theme.

Imagine staring into the darkness, sensing the light but not realizing that the glimmer we see is the seed of a fire with a relentless thirst for consumption. That is the nature of information in the digital age. So much information being generated that the only way to make sense of the content accumulating within the digital medium is for machines to logically process it's patterns of connectedness.

With vision in it's capacity to retrieve memory, it seems logical to deduce that we are training machines with textual knowledge and it connectedness to human action so that we can infer the motivations of people in visual images. An interesting but strange obsession for machine intelligence.

We might be giving machines, endlessly oscillating between signals and patterns to formulate a language that could inform human behavior and we may subtly be training machines by programming visual intelligence.

Imagine machines being able to automatically infer motivation from human beings by visually analyzing images, whether legacy or live images in the moment. When a machine sees an action it automatically knows the reason for it. You and I might be unsure or just assume we know what the action was based on, but for a machine to know with certainty?

Quote: “While we are still far away from automatically inferring motivation, our results suggest that transferring knowledge from language into vision can help machines understand why a person might be performing an action in an image.”

At a deeper sense of spirit, G-d reveals reality to us through our thoughts, “words” and actions and looking closer at two important distinctions we discover that hearing retrieves knowledge while vision retrieves memory.

Vision language and communications is a modality for spiritual learning. Deep within the recesses of one's unconscious mind arises a passion or memory of greatness which manifests as an emotional inspiration guiding one beyond what intellectual thought can provide. Are we giving this super conscious power to machines or are we asking machines to help us develop this power?

It's not surprising the observe the power of electricity as spirituality and on top of that the visual medium and appeal of digital technologies.
